India day 1
Hi got into Delhi airport at 9.00am and at 10.00am it was
over 90F – our great friend Om Prakash were there to meet us to take us to the
hotel – Crowne Plaza – real luxury at a low expedia price. Got to hotel at
noon. David went to work for a few hours, to return to hotel everyone was fast
asleep – it was a long flight – although only 9 hours from London it was okay, we went Premium
economy so had extra leg room and better food.
Late afternoon we went to the pool that is high up in the building
and overlooks the city which by that time was at over 110F the swim was
amazing. We then had dinner with BBA friends – who work against child labour.
Kailash Satyarthi (Nobel Peace Laureate) was to join us for dinner but he was
delayed on his way back from Nepal, we had dinner with Dhanajay of BBA and
Kailash son Bhuwan and Priyanka his wife, all heroes in their work against
child labour. We were briefed on our adventure/work/vacation and that in Bal
Ashram the school we are visiting we will give out 50 bikes. See bba.org.in
Day 2 –Monday 8th June
Got up early, had an amazing buffet breakfast at the very
posh hotel (reasonable price) Caroline, Thomas and Tamsin went early to visit
Mukti Ashram a childrens rescue center as the temp got upto 115F, they all met
the children that had been rescued from sweatshops and had a great interaction,
asking the children what they now wanted to be
they answered from Doctors to engineers – these children now have hope
and friends. Note cannot show rescued childrens images on blog.
David went to work in the offices of BBA – Save the
Childhood Movement and everyone met there for lunch, South Indian, delicious.
Spent some time talking on the bikes being given out all around India and that
on Wednesday we would give out over 50 bikes. We also took photos next to the
photo of the Nobel Peace Prize. After an exhausting working/vacation day, we
went back to the hotel for two hours a swim!
After the swim, we had dinner with Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel
Peace Laureate. Telling each other of our adventures and Tamsin particularly
told Kailash of the Best Buddies program at her school and Special Olympics and
that she had just been to the PA State
finals. We have known Kailash for 10 years and he is the most special and
gracious person one could ever meet. We left him early as he was travelling the
next day to Oslo to talk on the fight against child labour.
What a day – have to run as we are packing to go to Bal
Ashram school tomorrow after picking up Grandma and Grandpa from the plane.
Fascinating trip so far! You guys do the most amazing things with the most AMAZING people! We are in awe!
